Let’s practice speaking English every day with short, simple stories.

A Run Around the Botanic Garden, Singapore

This morning, I went for a run around the Botanic (/bəˈtæn.ɪk/) Garden in Singapore. The air was fresh after last night’s rain, and the paths were lined with blooming orchids (/ˈɔː.kɪdz/).

I started slowly, breathing in the scent of wet grass and flowers. Birds were singing, and I could hear the soft rustling of bamboo (/bæmˈbuː/) leaves. Soon, I found myself running faster, my heart beating to the rhythm of nature.

I passed Swan Lake, where two white swans glided gracefully on the water. Tourists were taking photos, and children were laughing as they chased butterflies. I waved at a friendly old man who was doing tai chi (/ˈtaɪ ˈtʃiː/) under a tree.

When I finished the run, I sat on a bench near the National Orchid Garden. My legs were tired, but my mind felt calm and refreshed. Running there reminded me how lucky I am to live in a city that values both nature and peace

BMW I8

In front of me is a stunning BMW i8 — painted in a blue and black combinationI walked closer, admiring its smooth curves and glowing logo.

It’s a hybrid (/ˈhaɪ.brɪd/) sports car, using both electricity and fuel. That amazed me! The i8 can reach up to 250 kilometers per hour, and  it’s also eco-friendly(/ˌiː.kəʊˈfrend.li/)

It represents innovation and the future of design. This is not just a car —  It’s so motivational. The BMW i8 reminded me that technology and beauty can work together perfectly.

🌿 A View from My Room

Every morning weekend, I sit in my small common room of a HDB (ˌeɪtʃ diː ˈbiː) flat. It is a small space, but it always feels spacious (ˈspeɪʃəs) and comfortable (ˈkʌmfərtəbl). The white walls make it look clean and bright. The floor shines after I sweep and mop it, and the sunlight gently enters through the window.

Outside my window, I see a beautiful mix of greenery (ˈɡriːnəri) and tall high-rise (ˈhaɪ raɪz) buildings. The trees below move softly when the wind blows, their leaves whispering to one another. Birds sometimes rest on the branches, singing cheerful songs that make the room feel alive. Beyond the trees, rows of tall apartment blocks stand proudly, their windows reflecting the morning sun.

In the evening, when the lights from the buildings start to shine, the view becomes even more magical. The trees turn dark and quiet, but the city sparkles like stars around me. Sitting here with a cup of tea, I often think how lucky I am to have this view — a small room, yet filled with peace, light, and life.

Destroying to Protect

Do you know, In a company, one of IT department duties is to destroy (/dɪˈstrɔɪ/) old devices to protect (/prəˈtekt/) company information. This time, we had two old iPads that needed to be completely eliminated (/ɪˈlɪməˌneɪtɪd/).

I started by removing the battery (/ˈbætəri/) carefully. Old batteries can be dangerous if you bend or puncture them. Then I took out the memory card and the screen (/skriːn/). The glass was cracked, so I needed to wear protective (/prəˈtɛktɪv/) gloves.

Next came the fingerprint sensor (/ˈfɪŋɡərˌprɪnt ˈsɛnsər/). It felt strange to destroy something so precise and beautiful, but it was necessary. Each piece of data, no matter how small, could be a risk (/rɪsk/) if it fell into the wrong hands.

When we finished, the iPads were just piles /pīlz/ of metal and plastic. I looked at the broken parts and thought about how technology can be both powerful and fragile (/ˈfrædʒaɪl/).

By destroying those iPads, we protected the company’s secrets and did our job well.

Sometimes, destruction (/dɪˈstrʌkʃən/) is a form of protection.

🏊‍♂️ A Refreshing Saturday Evening

It was Saturday afternoon, and I left my house at five o’clock. The sun was still bright, but the air felt cool and gentle. I decided to go swimming /ˈswɪmɪŋ/ at a sports complex /ˈkɒm.pleks/ near my home.

I walked for about ten minutes, passing through a beautiful park /pɑːk/ full of green trees 🌳 and colorful flowers 🌸. The park was peaceful, and I could hear children laughing and birds singing. It made me smile as I continued walking.

When I reached the swimming pool 🏊‍♂️, I saw people playing football /ˈfʊt.bɔːl/, pickleball /ˈpɪk.əl.bɔːl/, and hockey /ˈhɒk.i/ nearby. The whole place was full of energy and excitement.

I jumped into the cool water and started swimming. I swam five laps /læps/, which is about five hundred meters. The water felt smooth and refreshing /rɪˈfreʃ.ɪŋ/.

After finishing, I sat by the pool for a while, watching the sunset. My body felt light, and my mind was completely relaxed. It was a wonderful /ˈwʌn.də.fəl/ and healthy way to spend a Saturday evening.

I went home tired but happy, ready for a good night’s sleep 🌙.

☀️ A Lovely Morning at Tiong Bahru Market

Hello everyone! Today is the weekend /ˈwiːkˌend/, so my morning feels quite relaxed. I woke up early and decided to take a short walk /wɔːk/ to the market near my neighborhood to have breakfast /ˈbrek.fəst/.

The market is called Tiong Bahru Market 🏬. On the way there, I walked through a quiet residential area /ˌrez.ɪˈden.ʃəl ˈeə.ri.ə/ with low-rise buildings. These buildings are only four storeys /ˈstɔː.riz/ high!

As you can see, the weather today is so beautiful /ˈbjuː.tɪ.fəl/ — the sun is shining brightly ☀️, and the trees along the road are green and fresh 🌳. The whole scene looks peaceful and lively at the same time.

I’ve arrived at the market! The place has two floors /flɔːz/. The first floor sells fresh produce /ˈprɒd.juːs/ like meat, fish, and vegetables. The second floor is full of food stalls /stɔːlz/ offering different kinds of cooked food 🍜. To truly enjoy Singaporean dishes, this market is the perfect choice.

This morning I had a bowl of beef pho /fəː/ for breakfast. The flavor was quite good — the beef was fresh and tender — but of course, nothing can beat Vietnamese pho 🇻🇳!

Enjoy breakfast with me and have a wonderful /ˈwʌn.də.fəl/ weekend, my friends! 🌸

My Journey with Music

This morning, I played my favourite song while clearing my room. The rhythm (/ˈrɪðəm/) made me dance without even thinking. Music always gives me energy when I feel tired. I love how different instruments create such beautiful harmony. Sometimes, I write short lyrics to express my feelings. Even when I don’t have the right words, music helps me speak through sound. It teaches me patience (/ˈpeɪʃəns/) and creativity (/ˌkriːeɪˈtɪvɪti/). Every note reminds me that beauty can grow from effort and emotion

My Morning Exercise

I woke up early to go jogging(/ˈdʒɒɡɪŋ/) around the lake. The air was fresh, and the sunrise(/ˈsʌnraɪz/) painted the sky with soft colors. At first, my legs felt heavy, but after a few minutes, I found my rhythm (/ˈrɪðəm/). Exercise clears my mind and fills me with motivation. I know it’s not easy to wake up early every day, but discipline (/ˈdɪsəplɪn/) builds strength. When I finished my run, I felt proud and alive. Every step is a promise to myself to keep moving forward.

Cooking Spaghetti

Today, I cooked spaghetti (/spəˈɡeti/) for lunch. I boiled the pasta and prepared a sauce with tomatoes, garlic, and olive oil. When I mixed everything together, the colors looked beautiful – red, yellow, and green. The taste reminded me of the trip to Italy. I realized cooking is like painting; every ingredient adds something special. As I ate, I felt proud that I had made a simple but delicious meal. I wrote: “Food is art that we can eat.”

Friction

Today, we learned about friction (/ˈfrɪkʃən/). We are explained how it resists motion between two surfaces. We did an experiment with a wooden block sliding on sandpaper. It moved slowly because of friction was high. I imagined how car tires grip the road the same way. Then we discussed energy and how friction turns motion into heat. Science makes me see ordinary things in new ways. I wrote: “Every movement has a reason, and science helps me find it”
